Venus de Milo, Before the Loss

This is the one that hurts.

The man carving her was Alexandros of Antioch. Almost nobody remembers his name, and she became the most famous statue of a woman ever made. He worked in the open, with the city behind him, and she still had both arms.

What hangs here is what is left of her, two thousand years later. The arm is gone at the shoulder, and the break is the one place you can see inside.
