The Rebirth of Venus

Sandro Botticelli painted The Birth of Venus around 1485. Born from the sea, the goddess of love and beauty arrives upon a shell, carried toward shore by the wind. Five centuries later she is still one of the most recognizable images ever painted.

What hangs here is Venus returning once more. The sea has carried her through the centuries and set her down again, as though time could not keep her away. She rises with the same grace, into a world Botticelli could never have imagined.

The original was her arrival. This is her rebirth.
