After Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, 1886
Bartholdi designed her and France gave her to the United States in 1886. She has stood in the harbour ever since, the first thing millions of people saw of the country.
What hangs here is that same figure with her surface split open, and the city she has been watching lit up behind her. The torch is still up.
